Weeding The Garden of Your Entrepreneurial Success

June 18th, 2010  |  Published in Align Expand Succeed

About six weeks ago I planted my vegetable garden. Before doing the first bit of manual labor I carefully prepared by choosing the best site on my farm and deciding what I would grow. As I stood there admiring the perfect spot I developed a very clear picture in my mind of what my garden would look like green and healthy bursting with fresh vegetables. I imagined picking the first tomato and savoring a big juicy bite. Completing the vision I then imagined having such a plentiful harvest that I shared with all my neighbors. Now I was ready to plant. Taming The Gremlin In The Conscious Entrepreneur

June 11th, 2010  |  Published in Align Expand Succeed

Have you experienced a time in your business when all is going well then out of the blue comes a little negative voice in your mind that tries to sabotage all of your hard work and efforts? It’s like a part of you wants to rain on your parade and fill you with doubt.

No worries, this is a normal part of business development that most of us experience from time to time. What if I told you it is NOT that little gremlin voice you hear but rather what you say back that can really be the important part? Please allow me to explain.

Over the course of pretty much my whole life I have heard that little voice on numerous occasions and before I learned how to respond it could stop me in my tracks sometimes for days. Over time, I learned how to make it be quiet through meditation, a practice which I begin and end my day with. But what I found was that sometimes during the course of the day when I was involved in other activities that voice would come back. In fact it seemed to love to interfere with a favorite part of my day, early morning when I was in the barn with my horses doing chores and mentally planning my whole day. Now obviously a barn would not be the traditional ideal place for meditation so here’s what I did.

I turned barn chores into active meditation. I learned to take a few deep breaths as I listened to the dialogue going on in my head and then simply laugh out loud and say something to myself like “Now how true is that really? Isn’t that ridiculous? Jeni, you are so funny sometimes!”

It seemed that gremlin voice was no match for my sense of humor. Laughter is a powerful antidote that is rooted in a gentle self-awareness and love and when we connect back to this we regain our power to refocus our thoughts and see what really is the truth.

So give it a try. Next time before an important meeting, while you are stuck in traffic, any time that gremlin raises its head regain control with a few deep breaths and some light heartedness.
