Passion And The Conscious Entrepreneur

Several days ago I was having a discussion with someone who wanted to start a home business but was not clear on what type of business he or she wanted to become involved in. One of my first questions was, “What are you passionate about?” After several moments their replied was, ”I can’t afford to think about what I am passionate about, I need a business to make money”. My reply was simply, ”How can you not afford to know what you are passionate about?”

For quite some time we have been lead down a path that condones work should be just that and it is not important whether or not we are passionate about it. Many of us a have had a great job with great security making great money that allowed us to buy great things yet deep inside hungered for more. We were haunted by the question, “Is this all there is?” Then, as we have come to find out that great job that offered great security is no longer available. The results = angry, discouraged people that invested a good period of their life into something they really didn’t like now feel even more empty than ever. Are you beginning to see why I am so passionate about others discovering their passion?

Did you ever stop to think why it is that you are passionate about a certain topic? For example, when I was two years old I wanted a pony more than anything. No one else in my family had an interest in horses and every year that passed my passion became stronger. As time passed, I often wondered how I could to feel so connected to these magnificent creatures. The love grew deeper and when I finished college I started a show barn teaching riding lessons and taking students to shows. My business was full with a waiting list. After about twelve years my focus changed to racehorses, first racing then the breeding end of the business. For thirty some years I allowed my passion to dictate where I put my time and energy. The results? Thirty some years of loving what I did everyday with the bills always paid. Later, due to an auto accident I was no longer physically able to do all that is required in managing a commercial horse farm and once again I called on passion to help me discover the next integral part of my life. The results = life coaching.

I believe our passions are no accident but rather a whispering about our calling. Have you ever noticed when you are passionate about something how time flies? You have an endless supply of energy and even the tough times are full of meaning. Our passions are keys to who we are and why we are here. They lead the way to Divine Source’s plan for us. When are in tune with that plan we experience a life rich with love, beauty and meaning.

So as a conscious business owner who is looking for business success get in touch with your passions first and the journey will be full of promise.

Great post Jennifer. So true about one’s passion. Time does fly when you’re doing something you love.

What a wonderful post. You are so right about following our passion. It is actually more difficult for someone to do something based on money being the priority rather than passion.

Granted, a business has to make money and when we are doing something we love, we are passionate about and we would do even if we didn’t get paid we are more willing to go through the ups and downs that are a part of running a business.

And running a business based on being a conscious entrepreneur is usually driven by passion, values and love.
