Weeding The Garden of Your Entrepreneurial Success

About six weeks ago I planted my vegetable garden. Before doing the first bit of manual labor I carefully prepared by choosing the best site on my farm and deciding what I would grow. As I stood there admiring the perfect spot I developed a very clear picture in my mind of what my garden would look like green and healthy bursting with fresh vegetables. I imagined picking the first tomato and savoring a big juicy bite. Completing the vision I then imagined having such a plentiful harvest that I shared with all my neighbors. Now I was ready to plant.

Over the following weeks I have put attention on planting, watering fertilizing and another often over looked but very important step, weeding. This seemingly tedious task has allowed me an up close and personal view of each and every plant so that I can readily see what should stay and what needs to be culled out. In order to bear the most bountiful crop I need to focus on which plants are the strongest.

This got me to thinking about how weeding my garden is a lot like growing my business. It is perfectly normal in developing your business to cultivate a lot of ideas for success. As you go along you will find some serve you well, others not so much. As a conscious business owner allow yourself the freedom of letting go of those ideas or marketing strategies that do not serve you and focus on three or four that do.

It is always helpful to keep a journal of your ideas so that you can go back and review what you have kept and what you have discarded. If you find yourself particularly attached to an idea but are not sure how to implement it now, it is entirely possible that as time goes on it will bloom into a powerful part of your business later down the line.

Wishing you a bountiful harvest!
